Vedic literature & Tāntric practices are like "Greek & Latin" to most outsiders, inscrutable as they are after millennia of overlaid rituals. They are both intrinsic to the Indic civilization.
However there is a disturbing trend to acknowledge the indigenous roots of Tantra, as originated by the Dravidian Shiva, thus painting Tantra as being much older than that of the hypothetical "invading" Vedic Aryans. The ostensible reason for this perspective is to uplift the downtrodden Dravidian masses, but in reality it foments a Marxist style communist takeover, post-modern destruction. Insiders to the Indic traditions that push this model are whom we call Tāmasic Hindus.
Throughout Vedic culture our fully realized spiritual leaders have usually come from the Indic masses - such as non-Brāhmana Jāti, from the Kāvya Rishis like Vālmiki and Vyāsa, and to the Tamil Azhvārs - the list is endless. Modern day Caste evils with its rigidity is a relatively new import and worsened thanks to the Britisher's Risley misbegotten Indian population census, and further by the Tāmasic Hindu politicians. To the contrary, the traditional Varna/Jāti guilds have always allowed for fluidity because of the egalitarian educational model available across ALL classes of society. Read Dharampal for more on this.
In fact, Yoga as a Vedic word, corresponds to Tantra at a fundamental level, indicating a possibly independent discoveries of the core magic of spiritual alchemy - but in different yet complementary ways. Whereas Tantra uses (usually) the 7-Chakra system fundamentally driven by Prāna, the Vedic system uses 7-Vyahruti system fundamentally driven by Shabda, or sound. These are not in opposition but feed off of each other.
Furthermore, the Vedic rituals, or यज्ञ Yagnya, where we see the Brāhmana pandits stoking the fires of Agni, and making offerings, are essentially taking the inward self-oriented rituals of Tantra and expressing this alchemy outward to benefit all of society. The practice of Yagnya ensures that the entire surrounding environment is charged up beneficially. Of course it really helps if the pandits have themselves done their own inner Tantra/Yoga practice, the inner Yagnya if you will.
In the Vedic Yagnya, the essential ingredient of Ghee, made from गौ Gau, or cow's milk, is symbolic of the most refined essence of the cow, in itself a symbol for the Mind. Note how cows wander around looking for stuff to eat all the time like our इन्द्रिय Indriya sense organs, and then they ruminate on what they have eaten like our मनस Manas, and they have decorated horns to indicate the sharp thinking of बुद्धि Buddhi! Where अश्व Ashwa, or horses are mentioned in the Yagnya, this is to indicate our प्राण Prāna because श्व Shwa means breath and Ashwa means to not breathe which is कुम्भक Kumbhaka the essence of प्राणायम Prānayāma !
Semi-literate Sanskrit scholars with no clue of these inner meanings think that a Yagnya means animal sacrifice, consigning actual Cows & Horses into the flames, whereas it's actually about burning up one's gross energy fields to get in touch with the pure essence of one's Nature, as deified by Tantra.
As a purely societal alchemy practice, the Vedic Yagnya socially expands the inward essence of Tantra, without subverting it for political ends like States co-opts Religion.
The societal outcomes of the Vedic practices, co-powered by Tantra, have stood the test of time for millennia, as evidenced by visitors desperately seeking routes to India for the source of material and spiritual riches. It is only in the last few centuries under the relentless onslaught of the memetic viruses of jihadi terror, evangelical & and colonial expansions, post-modern brainwashing, and home grown Tāmasic Hindus, that we find ourselves having to defend the obvious complementarity of Vedic & Tāntric models.
Of course, current Hindu culture has its flaws, but as Yogis from the Indic civilization we are perfectly capable of reforming it internally with Dharmic frameworks that are more sustainable and based on rational thinking.
